I believe that was budesonide using a nebulizer, not the OTC nasal spray. Also was for one of the earlier variants, not Omicron.
In my personal experience, Omicron is a common cold. Nothing more, nothing less. Gone in a few days. Treat the symptoms you’re having.
I’m not a physician, and I haven’t stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in several years, so take this for what it’s worth.

I had covid in February/March 2020.
I stayed home (no hospital/doctor), but was so sick that I was hallucinating.
I now have super woman immunities. Have not been sick with anything since then, though I work with the public.

There was a posting awhile back saying put Povidone Iodine 10% with 90% water in a nose sprayer and also gargle same solution. I have that waiting if any symptoms come along.
I’m 81 and recovering from COVID which lasted 6 anxious days that included similar vitamin and Paxlovid protocols. Symptoms were bad sore throat and congestion. Went to ER due to lower oxygen saturation but not hospitalized. Covid is not a cold with identical symptoms for all. It can be deadly and I feel fortunate. BTW I am triple vaxxed but holding out on second booster to see what future vax options and therapeutics might come on line. BTW wife at 77 had the sniffles and little else.

I take Budesonide regularly for respiration problems. Found that it was not covered by my insurance (medicare) so I pay full price. I got COVID and sailed through without a day in bed and after 10 days saw my lung doc. He said I was past the point of worry about it getting worse and prescribed Prednisone for me if i caught it again. He also renewed my script for doxycycline because when I get a cold or flu it always ends with a bacterial lung infection. Yeah, I got bronchitis as a kid and have always had lung problems since.
But I feel that budesonide does help with breathing, and would help for COVID problems too.

Budesonide as a nebulized aerosol for inhalation has been very effective in treating Covid. So is dexamethasone. But these drugs are available by prescription only in that form. My recollection was that the nebulized budesonide was quite expensive, about $500 without insurance. This is not something to fool with when you’re in your eighties. You should be telling your friends to seek medical care, not try to treat it themselves. Steroids, bronchodilators, and massive Rx doses of vitamins like C and D may be necessary. Zinc and melatonin may be helpful as well.
I agree that it varies widely. I would take a guess that you don’t often have allergies, but that’s just as a guess. I am a frequent allergy sufferer, and I have a lot of nasal drainage which causes me to have a mild sore throat often, so when this one came it was just a little more than that. Stuffy head, yes, but that’s also one of my norms.
My husband, on the other hand, felt like he had a terrible sore throat at first with congestion. His first day he wanted to stay in bed, so I let him, and I treated him just like I had when anyone in our household was sick with a cold. Let them rest, check in on them, bring drinks, food, snacks, or OTC meds as warranted. He was exposed on a business trip, so he got it first.
I was exposed once he returned home, because he was already contagious before he showed symptoms. Fortunately he was almost better when I tested positive a few days after his test. I had a bit of a headache and a fever at first, but the headache was gone later that day, and the fever broke after 36 hours. The stuffy head lasted another night or two, and the cough took a few more days to work out. As I mentioned, a cough is one of my common reactions to allergies, so my cough may also have been due to the bazillion pollens out there right now.
I know we were lucky, but we try hard to eat right, exercise daily, and keep a positive attitude, which I think is crucial right now. Too many people trying to make us forever frightened of our own shadows. Oh, and we’ve done something against the norm. We’ve taken the time to lose weight. We put on extra weight at the beginning of the lockdowns, but got serious about losing it at the beginning of 2021. I’m at a normal BMI now for over a year, and my husband is rapidly approaching that goal, too.
Since your wife and I both had milder cases than either you or my husband, I’m wondering if it affects men more seriously. I don’t know if that’s true or not...just speculation. I’m glad you’re both over it and doing well.
