NASA is scheduled to release the first images taken by the James Webb Space Telescope on July 12, 2022...Marcia Rieke, an astronomer at the University of Arizona and the scientist in charge of one of Webb's four cameras, explains what she and her colleagues have been doing to get this telescope up and running.

I am really excited to see what this telescope produces, meanwhile Hubble continues to amaze.

In with the first Uranus joke
I guess NASA was able to work around the damage to the mirror from the meteoroid strike.
Some images have already been released. They are stunning
Sigh of relief. We got it right
When you consider the delays and then disaster from Hubble's initial deployment in 1990, I wager that no one could have seen / foreseen these 3 decades of kudos for this project! As critical as one can be of NASA, which is what that agency faced after discovering the warped mirror, the recovery and ongoing success is NASA at its BEST! When you consider the ROI of the HST Project, it has been worth every penny.
I dread its demise which is coming. To my knowledge, there is nothing that can save it or further prolong it BUT we can hope as 2030-40 gives some hope!
Put them together and you get the “Webb Hubble” telescope.

How long will it be until they realize this scientific achievement is named after a white guy?
Agreed, the images were warped to unusable, the mirror was not deformed.
Where have you been? This was an active SJW campaign for the two years prior to the Christmas 2021 Launch of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Their stated desire for the rename was because Administrator Webb did too little for LGBTQ causes in the 1960-70s. They suggested a rename to Harriet Tubman for 'obvious' reasons (/sarc)!
Link? I’d like to see them.
