I think you should lock your doors, but I know many people in ON the beaten path suburbia who don’t lock their car or even house doors.
I still think you’re risking the random crook or crazy. Then again I envy you.
Locks don’t stop crooks or crazies—they keep honest people honest. Demonstrating trust helps people to remember that they need to maintain the cultural standard.
That said, when the beater goes, I will likely opt for a second stick.
If you want to find a generally good culture, move to a place where people speak softly and are carried by big sticks.
