My father served on the USS Boxer at the tail end of the war (enlisted at 17 in Dec. 1944). By early summer of ‘45 they were in the Philippines awaiting the planned invasion of Japan.

At the museum there is a display that shows the number of ships, men, tanks, planes, landing craft etc. that was either used or planned for for three amphibious assaults: Anzio, Normandy and Japan.

Anzio was the largest at that time, Normandy more than doubled Anzio. The Japanese invasion was more than double that of Normandy. The chart was stunning when one saw what was being planned.

The museum is a must see for any WWII history fan.

My sis in law is Filipina so I go there once in awhile. Even when to Univ. of Santo Tomas in Manila where a lot of US POW’s and their families were held. Until even 2015, the bullet holes are still all over some buildings. I’m almost sure your Dad was happy we planted 2 mushroom clouds over the Japs or he’ll be part of the invasion force..
