The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. at Warm Mineral Springs Motel on South Tamiami Trail in North Port, according to a report from the Tampa station.
Investigators said the man was walking outside the motel overnight when he spotted a dark figure that “appeared to look like a dog with a long leash,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson wrote in an email to WTSP-TV.

The original headline I read seemed to suggest the gator had mistaken the Man for a Dog......

Thought the Headline was suppose to read:
“Florida Man mistook gator for dog”
Now if he wasn’t wearing cloths, it’s complete.

Gators stand very tall on land. In the dark, it can be difficult to make out depending on the angle of approach. We’ve seen them stalking the lake on the land where we hunt. There were a few mornings on the way to our tree stands where something about the size of a dog cross our path. It wasn’t a dog.
