I have a genetic disorder that causes extremely low levels of HDL (good cholesterol) in my blood. It wasn’t a problem when I was a serious bicyclist. It puts me at increased risk of heart disease and also causes nerve damage which gives me numb feet and tinnitus.

Currently I am trying increased exercise (getting back on the bike) and swigging 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil a day.

The extra virgin olive oil reminds me a great deal of 10-40 motor oil in color and viscosity. I mix it with spaghetti sauce and cheesy spices and dip bread in it. It also is a substitute for normal salad dressing. It is still more than a little disgusting, but I think that it is an acquired taste. It seems to be helping a bit with my tinnitus, and numb feet. I will be checking my HDL again next week to see if it is helping with that as well.

I use a supplement called CholestMD to lower my stubborn and chronic LDL. My LDL levels went down 12 points in three months.
