April 13, 1976. I got some the first day they were available and at recommendation of the bank personnel, went to the PO, bought a 13 cent stamp, pasted it on the bill, and had it cancelled. I did four of them. I just ran across them a few months ago. Someone’s selling them on the internet for $30.00.

When my kids were little, I’d tell ‘em to save pennies they found lying around (my son got into the habit of looking around the cash registers at the grocer’s) saying “hang on to those, they may be worth something someday”.
Copper washed zinc? Not likely.
