I’m a decade or two from that age, but in my case I’ve found athletic performance hasn’t decreased as much as chance of injury has increased. Recovery time from injury seemingly takes forever as an additional insult on top of aging.

If mountain climbing can be done without injury (only one fall is permitted

), so can mountain biking. You just have to be careful and develop your technical skills very slowly.
That's kind of fun in a way...makes the process more interesting.

BTW, I'll be 74 in August and I bike every day.
That said, I don't take chances. I don't road bike on busy highways and I walk my mountain bike trails and study them before I ride them if I don't know them well.

You might find this interesting...at the 19:00 mark the woman in the video comes to a descent over a rock that she is unsure of. Her coach tells her that if she isn't 100% sure she can make it, don't try.
Some days you feel it, some you don't. Wait until you are sure.
