Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, also known around the world by his stage name Sidhu Moose Wala, was killed Sunday evening while driving his car in Mansa, a district in northern India's Punjab state. Moose Wala, 28, was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Punjab state's top police official VK Bhawra said the initial investigation has revealed the killing to be an inter-gang rivalry.
A day before the attack, the Punjab government had pulled security cover for over 400 individuals, including Moose Wala, in a bid to clamp down on VIP culture, local media reports said.
Most of his singles have an English title even though the songs were mainly sung in Punjabi. His glossy music videos were most famous for his rap lyrics and often focused on macho culture. His debut album in 2018 made it to Canada's Billboard Albums chart.
Moose Wala was a controversial figure, in part due to his lyrical style. In 2020, police charged him under India's Arms Act for allegedly promoting gun culture in one of his songs.

Tictac UFOs 🛸🛸🛸 you know...
So, even Indian rap artists (and I must confess I wasn’t aware there were any) live and die the gangsta life.
I find that very odd as it promotes violence and misogyny.
Quick! Roll up the window! 🤣
“Gangsta” culture goes global.
Well..the word “thug” does come from India, yes?
This should end well...
Moose Wala stepped in my sister once.

He was turned down for an H1B visa?
Because Sidhu Moose Wala sounds so much better than Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu...
Moose? Did he bite his sister after eating some cheese? Well, I’m gonne go hit the shower.
I think the Rap approach to performing has become so popular because of a few things:
Rap usually centers on complaining about what you dont have. It’s the Lazy Man’s version of The Blues.
Rap can be performed by anyone without learning how to sing, without learning how to play an instrument.
Rap performances are often made up by lifting or stealing music from professional musicians, especially if that stolen music is already very familiar to your market.
Gutter language, reptilian thinking and vulgar behavior are encouraged and applauded.
The main reason rap became big. It’s cheap to produce and highly profitable as the performers are disposable.
After being saddled with a name like Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, I can understand why he would change his name to Sidhu Moose Wala.
I hadn't thought about it like that before, but you are right. I love the Blues analogy.
Rap can be performed by anyone without learning how to sing, without learning how to play an instrument.
Now that we all knew. All you need is that jungle rhythm.
“rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.”
NPR, of all places, actually got it right!
In most cases (probably ALL cases) there is no “doctor” (licensed physician) on scene.
Therefore no one at the scene can “legally” pronounce anyone “dead”.
So statements like, transported to the hospital “where he died” are misleading. Or “He died at the hospital”.
Maybe he did, but in most cases they are already dead, but no one there can make that legal determination. A good thing. Its just that the “reporting” is often inaccurate, SHOCKER!
