It is very newsworthy. It's widespread fraud committed by private companies at the direction of the state, impacting people's driver's licenses and wallets.
The directors of these companies need to be charged with fraud, fined, and removed from running such programs by court order.
In my case it was nothing more than an honest mistake that I was able to disprove. I have seen no evidence of “widespread fraud”. Spurious accusations do not make it so.
