Theres no question it was a pro-armed forces propaganda piece for us. lets just be honest. 1986, and ussr and china and norks and iran...

but it was hokey and parts were unbelievable.

Basically how a pilot who left top gun after gettin his WO killed, gets to come back and finish, then gets an elite deployment on a carrier who just happens to be in a conflict zone, and the first thing they do is send the brand new guy up over all other pilots onboard, and he somehow kills a bunch of bogeys and saves the best guy in the top gun class who also happens to be flying the other plane they sent up...?

Yep.

Reminds me of Days of Thunder.

Ironic cruise was in that one also.

As a Southerner that was an avid NASCAR fan at the time and I was actually in the infield the weekend they shot footage at Daytona and knowing what I did about the sport, that movie was a joke and an insult.

If it wasn’t for Robert Duval it woulda sucked entirely.
