The principal of a Tennessee elementary school has been fired two and a half years after video emerged of her dragging a special education student through the school.
Helen Campbell was fired for 'unprofessional conduct, conduct unbecoming, insubordination, and neglect of duty' from Walter Hill Elementary in Murfreesboro Thursday.
Rutherford County Director of Schools Bill Spurlock said that on November 4, 2019, the unnamed student failed to comply to a request from Campbell.
She then grabbed the student by the ankles and dragged him through the school's hallway for 570 feet, equivalent to the length of two football fields.
The child sustained minor injuries. Both Campbell and teacher Bonnie Marlar had child abuse charges filed against them after Marlar helped drag the youngster.
The charges were eventually dismissed by a judge. Campbell and Marlar were suspended, and no decision has been made about Marlar's future with the school.
Spurlock has accused Campbell of attempting to destroy evidence, saying she tried to delete security footage from the school's cameras.
Campbell pled no contest to the charge and was given probation for a misdemeanor charge.
She issued the same plea, guaranteeing a conviction but not admitting guilt, to a neglect charge.
At a Thursday night board of education meeting, stills from that security video showed Campbell pulling the child by his arm from a chair, grabbing him by his belt and dragging him by the wrists.
Then, they are shown grabbing the boy's ankles and dragging him to the back of the school. They dragged him a total of 570 feet.

OK, was he on the floor pitching a fit? or did she bend over and yank his feet out from under him...
You are correct. Government schooling shouldn’t have autistic children in the same class with other children. My grandson is autistic. They need specialized environments.
Let’s look at summer camps. There are private summer camps for every disability, medical condition, and special interest ( talent) of every imaginable kind.
If all schooling were private, we would see the same variety of educational services.
He was on the floor having a sit down protest refusing to do as he was told.
I would have done the same thing. When you have a child who will not follow your instruction(orders), you force compliance(make them do what you want). This is woke crap, if something happened to my child who was similarly retarded and obstinate, I would be mad. I would never let him hear my anger, I would tell the child that he deserved this. Then be angry away from his sight. People need to respect authority, especially Children.
1). The obvious. Corporal punishment or at least, corporal defense should be in school, as in home. But I know the Dr. Spock wussies have driven it out as absolute evil.
2). “Autism” is all the rage for the last 15-20 years. Suddenly everyone has autism - is on the “autistic spectrum”. I’m sure I am, and My husband, E.g. thus, it’s highly doubtful this kid really is autistic, and may just be a cover for the parents not to use pre-Spock philosophy and the schools to get more cash.
Exactly…another way to color your view of it - leave out important details.
Yes, Special Ed and seperate classrooms and schools were a good thing. There is no need to have wheelchair bound kids in a classroom. No possible good can come from multi lingual classes. The deaf can go to deaf school. The blind can go to blind school. The misbehaving kids can go to the schools that teach how to serve burgers, shovel shit in the chicken coop, or drive a taxi.
Our schools(govt schools) build nothing but failures, because they do not weed out those who can’t, won’t, or are incapable of learning.
Gym teacher had one called the Octopus, he used it on me. For snapping towels at the guys coming out of the showers.
My mother was a great teacher, and in fact ended up heading a small high school as part of a mental institution (emotionally disturbed). After that she taught almost all E.D.
She was a great teacher, and got her right-wing ways thru to the students (including creating school activities that pushed POSITIVE American history).
She was a real authoritarian, but kids loved her because she also is very generous and has a heart of gold.
Even before retirement, she let kids know she didn’t CARE that the laws (they knew) say she can’t touch them, or can only sit on them, or “hug” them. She made it clear she’d do what she needed to do.
“journalists”
I didn’t beat my kids, wife, dogs, or walnut trees and they are all kind and loving. Except the dogs, they are well behaved. The walnut trees are heavy bearing.
Why do people think you need to beat kids and dogs? They need love and communication.
If you want to beat someone, pick on someone your size. Go beat that teacher and principal. I’d be after that judge at the state bar level. The teacher and principal would welcome being sued in civil court because the available alternative is bad f0or their health.
If you let anyone lift a hand to your kids you’re a sorry excuse for a parent.
Yeah I dragged a violent special ed student out of the classroom too. Grabbed her feet because she had already bitten me before and I had to get a tetanus shot.
She also spit in my face, grabbed my hair and tried to slap my face. And She tried to do the same to other kids
So I did the safest thing. If I did it today(this was many years ago) I would be fired.
The kids have rights that teachers don’t have. We had to put up with a lot of abuse.
Some people want teachers to be armed...
Don’t be stupid. There is a big difference between beating a kid and having one’s butt busted. It won’t hurt these kids to get their butts busted when they are small. Most of the time just the fear of it worked. Like I said that Junior high teacher all he had to do is point to the paddle, I never saw him use it. It was the fear that if one did not behave they would get it.
It’s your place to decide whether or not someone else’s kids should receive corporal punishment. Now who is being stupid?
