“The fine is $25 in Georgia.”

I looked it up and the internet says it’s $35 in Florida. I want to say the total fine for at least the one woman was $150 but I don’t know what else might have been included. I had a trooper give me a complete vehicle inspection including tread depth in an effort to plus-up the ticket.
Some people have a lot of week left at the end of their money, as was her case. Several years ago only California published data on people who had lost their license due to non payment of fines. It was half a million people. The pay it or we take your license was designed to intimidate people who had enough spare cash but simply didn’t want to pay. A huge percentage of people don’t have even a spare $100 dollars set aside for an emergency. The draconian fine structure and penalties simply forces these people into homelessness.
