Outrage as NRA to gather in Houston just days after Texas school massacre
Counter-protests expected as about 55,000 NRA members to attend event, including Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Greg Abbott
Just days after the deadliest mass school shooting in Texas history, the National Rifle Association (NRA) – America’s leading gun lobbyist group – will meet a few hours away in Houston on Friday.
Ashton P Woods says they are not welcome in his home town.
“These people are coming into our community. The city of Houston needs to kick them out,” said Woods, an activist and founder of Black Lives Matter Houston. “We have to be just as tough about these things as they are.”
Woods is helping organize one of several protests planned just outside the George R Brown Convention Center, where NRA members will browse through exhibits of firearms and gun paraphernalia and hear speeches from key Republican leaders.
The goal of the Black Lives Matter protest, Woods said, is to “get loud” outside while powerful speakers – including the Texas governor, Greg Abbott, Texas senator Ted Cruz and former US president Donald Trump – take the podium inside. Woods said the issue of firearms was particularly important to the civil rights group that primarily tackles issues of police brutality in America.
“Whether it be death by suicide, death by cop, death by mass shooter, we need to control the access people have to deadly weapons,” Woods said. “These things are interconnected.”

The NRA does not kick people out of communities. They are very pro-1st Amendment and defend everyone's right to speak and assemble peacefully.
But BLM doesn't assemble peacefully so they probably don't get that.
In fact BLM has burned down more black communities than the NRA ever has. Which is none.
I live in Houston. I say the NRA is more than welcome.
What better place to meet up.

And the other cops who didnt go in show 1) you cant rely on government to protect you, and 2) guns wont stop an armed homicidal killer if you dont use them.
Funny how the shooting just happens to occur right before the NRA convention...

Isn’t it interesting, 23 years after Columbine our public schools that are run 100% by democrats STILL do not have mandated basic security systems. I was in a High school last month to pick up my friends daughter, we walked right in in the side entrance nobody stopped us. Any one of us could have walked right into any classroom. How hard is it to set up only one entry into schools with an armed guard that buzzes people in? If I didn’t know any better, it seems to me democrats do not WANT security.
Not too much more outrage elsewhere, though.

I disagree. The dems will not advance any proposal that has even a slight chance of improving the situation. The propaganda value of school shootings is far to high for them.

Typically that is set by the venue, not the NRA.
