All Pentagon loss estimates are based on Ukrainian reported data.
What are ukranian losses versus the original ukrainian army’s equipment. Cant Judge with just one side of the data. Also how much russian equipment in service and reserve. It looked like at the start only 10 to 20% of the russian army was committed in the Ukraine

A good start.
My guess is that there are three different "estimates" in the pentagon.
One estimate is derived from intercepts of C-Status reported up the chain all the way to Putin.
The second estimate is derived from classified photo intel. IMHO, this is probably the most accurate.
The third estimate is gatherings from various unclassified sources.
The teams gathering the data are isolated from each other in separate compartments.
Then a high ranking intel officer then analyzes the data to determine what numbers can be released.
For example, if the pentagon publishes the exact numbers that Putin is getting, then the Russians would know we are reading their mail. However, if photo intel can count 1200 losses and Putin is being told he has lost 1000 then there would be a lot of laughter at the Pentagon.
This is all a guess. I have no insider knowledge.
