A/k/a Mogadishu on the Mississippi.
Yeah. And those of us who know Memphis, know that “American Way” is not a place to be after dark.
There used to be a thriving mall there in the 80’s, a really big one, and a nice one for years. Had an ice-skating rink, and lots of neat stores. “The Mall of Memphis” it was called. After about 10-15 years time, it became known as “The Mall of Murder” to many of us locals. It closed in 2003, and soon after was completely leveled. There’s a truck terminal on the site, and other off-brand businesses nearby.
As the decent folks move out, the Aylesha’s fill the void. That’s the basic story in Memphis. Has been for decades - accelerated by forced busing in the 70’s.
