RIP Thadius Peck, 1711-1781Photo by: City of Cuyahoga Falls
It may be one stone among others in a forgetten graveyard.
I read now that they uprooted the stone to display. I hope the site was marked and noted for reference later.
Cemeteries have always fascinated me but I worry that we will soon run out of land for them. I say that we should "digitalize" the headstones using GPS and turn them all the cemeteries into golf courses. As you move from hole to hole, the virtual headstones of the bodies below you will pop up on your app
That way, you can visit your long dead aunt while getting in a round of golf.
I'm surprised that nobody but me has thought of this before.
A well known racist, because who, besides white racist could live for 70 years back then and also afford to have carved headstone?
S/OFF {Gee, I hope this wasn't necessary.}
Is he under the stone or is the stone a traveler ,LOL
Wow 1781. That’s almost as old as Madonna.
Bkmk
Cool find. Would be something if it was relative of Gregory peck.
“From Seneca to Cuyahoga Falls”. The Pretenders.
The relatives can now stop hunting (and pecking) for Thadius’s headstone, after it was swept away in the Great Flood of 1803.
The cement ray where my family is buried has headstones older than this...
Another early one on property on Tall Thomas Egypt plantation ...Miss delta....where I duck and deer hunted 1971-1982 extensively on Matthews brake a headwaters of the Yazoo River
They think she may have been betrothed to a planter family and died on board a small steamship em route and was buried on the bank of the river
She’s in remarkable state of preservation and was quite fetching when alive apparently
I don’t think she’s ever been identified
1840s

One of my favorite headstones is at Arlington National Cemetary. I don’t recall the name, but his rank was LTC. He made special mention of his “beloved second wife”, eternally dissing his first wife...lol.
I’ll bet old Thadius never thought he’d make headline news 241 years after his death.....
Im almost sure that guy voted in the last election for biden
I think he voted in Ohio’s Democrat primary
For every headstone that is found and preserved, their are at least 10 that are destroyed, buried, or hidden. Developers with a Bobcat equipped with headlights hate headstones on land suitable for development, so they go out there at night and the headstones, or even entire cemeteries disappear.
Several of my ancestors had had the bad luck to suffer that fate, one within the last 30 or 40 years and several others over 150 years ago. This has been going on for many years.
Too bad he missed out being in the census records. He would be in the courthouse records... if there wasn’t a fire or flood or they got lost or whatever disaster seems to always befall old records.
Thadius is dead? I did not know he was ill!
