Well there’s cowpox, camelpox just waiting in the wings. The original smallpox vaccine prevents them all but once smallpox was eradicated the global vax for those stopped and now every human younger than about 40 is susceptible to every animal pox strain. The solution is to just use the original smallpox vaccine and go back to global protection but that eliminates the use of smallpox as the perfect bioweapon so the major powers keep that in reserve USAMRIID keeps a stock of smallpox for “research” aka bioweapon use.
