Human monkeypox is a viral infection caused by the monkeypox virus (MPV), a relative of now-eradicated smallpox. Monkeypox generally presents with similar symptoms to smallpox, although usually milder. Its case fatality rate may be as high as 10% without prompt treatment.
Monkeypox is spread primarily through close contact with infectious people. Prior to the 2022 outbreak, monkeypox was not considered to be a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and some experts doubt that it has morphed into one. The rapid spread of the virus between sexual partners in the initial stages of the outbreak has prompted discussion that sexual intercourse may be a further route of transmission. It is not yet clear whether or not it has become an STI.
Smallpox and it’s cousins can be spread by skin to skin contact even “unbroken” skin has microscopic abrasions when vigorous physical activity of rubbing skin to skin is involved it doesn’t need to be a proper STI transmitted via semen grinding up on someone male or female who is infected is enough it’s in sweat and fluid from the lesions as well a single micro abrasion is enough for.either fluid to make the jump person to person. Buttstuff only increases that risk as it’s one giant mucus membrane . I’d bet good money in an actively infected person it is present in semen. Ebola was thought to not be in semen and it was later found to not only be in semen it was found TWO YEARS after the person recovered from Ebola in their semen so they were contagious years later. Ebola is also a fully encapsulated DNA virus like the pox family.
