My brother lost his first child to SIDS. Devastating, for all of us.

So Betaine increases Butyrylcholinesterase.
Betaine is made in the body from Choline.
And Betaine is found in beets.

I don’t know what negative effects of too much Butyrylcholinesterase is, especially in infants.

But maybe there will be some preventative measures, such as adding something to prenatal vitamins and baby formula, if we ever see formula again.

Several years back either Australia or New Zealand outlawed the use of fire retardant chemicals on all baby bedding products, including crib mattresses. Their rate of “crib death” plunged. This might help explain why tummy sleepers have a significantly higher incidence of SIDS than back sleepers.

interesting from amnectdotal experience with a relative

a female cousine of mine had a baby who died with SIDS as the suspectd cause

she later went on to die early (in her 60s) due to early and progressive dementia

a number of recent studies indicate some role of low Butyrylcholinesterase with dementia

the Butyrylcholinesterase biomarker for SIDS and dementia may be related
