The US Covid death count looks like Excess Deaths on the curves now. EDs always required 4 weeks for all death data to tabulate. Covid deaths are not reported differently for different states now. There is a week or two delay.
The consequence of this is we can’t see day to day results. But if you look back 2 weeks, you get meaningful curves. And right now the decline from Omicron this past winter appears to have flattened. There is no upslope that is distinct, but it does look flat.
The flat level is above the minimum of last summer. About 250-300 dead/day vs 200ish last summer. Connecticut is seeing more cases and their death count is also upticked, but it doesn’t look winter-level serious.
And there we have it. The numbers look a bit higher than last summer’s minimum, regardless of fearful denial.
As for vax, it’s no longer relevant. All immunity has faded by now for everyone either vaxed or recovered from an infection last year. If you’re over 65, you have no protection from the next surge.
