Hmmmm. No matter what I type for a username, even junk like this:
asdf s8@ -8df 8-9 %%^ Adsds
I get “That username is already taken”. Even if I type something more valid (which of course I tried first, a couple dozen times, and no, they weren’t all “common” names): same thing.

I already had jumped through the various hoops about having to enter a phone #, verifying my email, getting the 6-digit text code to continue, and got through that without any issues.

Almost the same, usually I get “username taken” but once in a while “failed to register your account” instead.
I give up.. will try in a couple of years.
