Actually, to most people's disappointment, he backed away from his old patriotic statements. He apologized to his woke team mates, and the world, for ever making those kind of comments.

My regard for him, which was pretty high for his old stances, simply plunged when he did that.

I doubt his firing had anything to do with his old patriotic, pro military, pro flag sentiments.
