Why would someone want to ban “To Kill a Mockingbird?”

I have read that it is because - to paraphrase - a powerful, privileged, white attorney defends a helpless, discriminated-against black defendant. Obvious racism. /s

You misunderstand!

No one wanted to outright "ban" the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Rather, parents in certain school districts wanted it struck from their fifth-graders' curriculum and/or removed from the elementary school's library. A reasonable decision.

But, to be frank, if I knew that my children's teacher was hoping only to twist, smear, mock, and/or falsely represent any book - say, in the context of promoting CRT - I wouldn't want that teacher teaching even the Bible. (Of course, it would, in that case, be better to eliminate the teacher.)

Regards,

For the same reason they banned Huckleberry Finn.

It’s the epitome of what WAS and how it was dealt with so as to NEVER let it happen again. Thank you Dr. King and the Republicans in the Congress for making that horrible state of affairs stop!!! The Demonrats are depending on the ignorance of a class of people NOT to realize who was responsible for their ANCESTORS plight and keep the ignorance going!!!
