A trans advocate in Halifax is calling for doctors and surgeons in Nova Scotia to stop using body mass index as an indicator of someone's health.
Felix Vandergrift says the index, known as BMI, is discriminatory and is yet another barrier standing between trans individuals and life-changing gender-affirming surgeries.
"The fact that I wasn't even able to book a consult because my BMI was too high is unacceptable. Period," said Vandergrift, who was recently denied a consultation to get a double mastectomy due to his weight. "You don't know anything about me, and you're telling me my BMI is too high."
Vandergrift said he was told by the staff at a private clinic in Halifax that he would have to lose weight and have a BMI under 30 in order to be seen by the doctor for a surgery consultation.(snip)
"I can't imagine a young queer person who is already uncomfortable in their body, thinking there's no way I can ever change this, because my BMI is too high."

A BMI over 30 is considered obese. Obese ppl can have more surgery complications because they’re fat, FFS! I feel like every story I read lately is from Babylon Bee. 🤦♀️

I see this as left-on-left fighting. The left was the side that wanted to deny overweight people essential surgery, less for possible complications than aesthetics. “You’re fat, so you should die!”, went right along with “You’re old, so you should die!”
It’s really no different that persecuting those of racial, cultural, linguistic, or religious minorities.
However, in this case, we also know how the left favors the LGBTQ-Ps, at the expense of everyone else. So fat, old transsexuals should be given priority they don’t deserve.
So seeing these two groups of hypocritical leftists go at it is popcorn time.
