I’ve watched it a time or two, the original. It is NOT funny. It has a darkness in it, a sinister overtone.

I found it funny (with a dark edge, yes) at the time, but I didn’t quite “get” it. Like, why was this bunch of people together?

Years later, when the the anniversary special aired and they explained the backstory (Al was supposed to go to college on a football scholarship before his got his girlfriend Peg pregnant), THEN it made sense.
