Just FYI...I've done some traveling in my day, including to some of the most backward and dangerous parts of Africa,Asia and South America and I've never once been murdered by a cop...or a soldier...or anyone.
I think you should reconsider your attitude about American cops.
I just say “before we begin, I’m obligated by state law to inform you that I have a carry permit and I am carrying at this time. What would you like me to do?”
They usually ask me where it is and then request my driver’s license and carry permit. I then tell them my wallet is in my left pocket, etc. I like to tell them what I’m doing so they understand I’m not reaching for my gun. I’ve been pulled over 3 times in 2 different states and never had any trouble.

Using common sense has always worked for me. Situations can vary, one must read each situation correctly.
Castille did just the opposite, and acted like a fool.
He thanked me and walked back to his car to run the check. (I was speeding. Listening to "Louie, Louie" and remembering cruising in my 396 Impala w/Julie D sitting so close to me she was almost in my lap. Then he shows up.)
He came back and just gave me a warning and asked what I was carrying. I said "a Sig P239." He got all excited and started telling me about his Sig collection and I told him about my Sigs and that was it.
Good point, and many are not used to tense situations, so you don't want to do anything to increase the tension. Also, some may not be the brightest or the best trained. Case in point, the gal who pulled her gun thinking it was her taser.
Did you watch them during the riots or during Covid? Fat, lazy stupid street muscle for incipient Hitlers. Enforcing the diktats of power hungry politicians.
I never inform the cop I have a gun. I say nothing at all. I simply pull it out really quickly, so that he becomes aware I have a gun, and is impressed with the speed of my draw.

LEOs are heros and villains on FR, and there is ample evidence to support both postions. Ultimately, and broadly, they (like us) want to do their job and come home alive. The BIG difference is most of our daily tasks at work and home are about avoiding tense situations....LEOs' job basically puts them in tense situations. Yes, they chose that profession - this isn't about sympathy, it's about situational awareness.
A retired LEO told me that the best thing anyone can do when being pulled over, is to diffuse any tension: keep your hands on the steering wheel, speak economically and deliberately, and inform the LEO when you're moving your hands and where your hands are going. The LEO should appreciate your approach, which btw doesn't make you a slave but makes you less likely to get into an unnecessary donnybrook.
As for the firearm, anyone carrying should know the rules and laws in any state through which they're traveling. For example in NJ any firearm must be in the trunk, locked in a box, and separated from ammunition, and you should be traveling directly to your destination, e.g. No stopping at the 7-11 and then McDonald's and then Wal-Mart. That sucks if you're coming from free PA but the 9th and 10th Amendments cut both ways.
And for crying out loud, if you were speeding or blew the red light, don't be a liberal and whine and protest. You gambled, and lost. Take it like a man. Besides anyone who doesn't have 2 points on their license isn't living.
Here in IL the cop will know if you have a CCL. It’s linked to your plates and your DL. That of course assumes your driving a vehicle that’s linked to you. As I have a company car that’s registered to an out of state corporation they wouldn’t get that info from the dispatcher.
Of course the best policy is don’t do anything to merit a traffic stop in the first place.

Well said!
I do have to say. Carrying a weapon has improved my driving habits 98%. Just too darn complicated to get pulled over for a traffic infraction and then have to explain about a gun “on my person”.
My wife approves of the improvement. LOL
Of course there's not a defense lawyer in the country who would approve of my attitude but then I'm one who doesn't always take advice.
There's an amazing video on youtube that I just discovered recently. It's a Canadian Air Force Colonel being questioned by a Canadian cop about two murders (and other crimes) that had recently occurred. The Colonel was,in fact, responsible for every one of the crimes (including the murders) yet he volunteered to talk to the cops without a lawyer. It's really fascinating...and if you have 2.5 hours to spare I'd recommend it...despite the fact that it's very graphic and deeply disturbing. Just search youtube for "Russell Williams".
I understand. My CC at the time was expired, but it worked out. He didn’t ask, I didn’t tell.
I know several officers who would rather restore the peace than make an arrest or issue a citation. If it isn’t a felony many times they separate the parties and allow them to cool off and it restores the peace, thus the term peace officers. They would rather be Andy than Barney. To lump all cops as murderous killers to be hated is just stereotyping bigotry and just as bigoted as being racist towards blacks or Hispanics.
Cop came up, I opened my window, he freaked and drew his pistol on me. Demanded I lift my hands up and tell him what was over on my passenger seat.
I looked, and laughed. I had a print partially covering a tool of mine. I explained, he had me remove the print slowly, and there was my hand held compass with a pistol grip attached.
He profusely apologized. Which I accepted. But that had been a scary moment looking at his pistol. I totally understood his position.
The best news for me was he let me go without a ticket. Which I richly deserved. I think he was embarrassed by what happened. Thanked me for not being angry and just let me go.
