In 1960, what you describe was the entire USA. The VN war really started the counterculture ball rolling. The black riots in the mid 60s were a disaster, too. The Pill really caused morals to decline through “recreational sex.” And the nation was still feeling rather muscular in 1960, only 15 years after the end of WW II, and Pax Americana was the rule.

Mark Steyn’s excellent book “America Alone” discusses how two World Wars so damaged Europe that people became fatalistic, ennui set in, and birth rates fell below replacement in many places. Some of the same fatalism took root in the USA, too.

I went to engineering school at the University of Missouri in Fall 1969 and we were really a secluded, rather peaceful place blissfully far removed from all the VN War riots and unrest.

The frontier in the United States was closed due to the iron horse crossing the country. The automobile and the airplane shrunk the continent further, making the United States more like Europe. We've reached the European model of archaic infrastructure, population density, and people with competing interests.

Stack people like rats in a cage, take away the fruits of their labor, put them among those hostile to them and watch them walk away. A full generation tried to overcome it but the next generations won't waste their effort.

One truth that the nationwide Democrat riots of 2020 exposed was the number of white demented and drug-addled rioters who hate the Deplorables and really feel entitled to burden others with their problems.

"only 15 years after the end of WW II"

when you think about it, how depressing for our WW2 parents to witness the disrespect the radicals showed....

both my parents were in the war....

came back home to raise a good family and then SHTF.....disgraceful, punk, dirty, immoral college aged brats ruined the whole country.
