...anniversary edition of "Animal House"..has a great documentary on the production of the film... One of the most fascinating things was the choice of someone to write the original score for the movie, including the introductory Faber Theme which sounds like...formal college music. John Landis wanted, out of the blue...Elmer Bernstein!

Here it is, love it!

Faber College Theme - "Animal House" - Soundtrack

I am a great fan of Elmer Bernstein. No one other than Ennio Morricone can write such evocative melodies for movie scores. I still have the vinyl of Bernstein's score for To Kill a Mockingbird.

Besides Elmer Bernstein's aptly grand Faber college theme and Morricone's choral art pieces, both Bernstein and Morricone can make theme music sound just like a person's private journey in his own memory, with tender pathways and upswells of emotion, from tender to sweet to ardent to bitter, and back again.
