I've always used 'An' in that situation - spell it as you say it.

‘An NYC’ when the letters are enunciated. ‘A New York City’ when the actual city name is pronounced.

Plus there doesn’t appear to be a LaQuinta Inn in Walkill, NY.

It appears to be the one at 551 NY-211 E, Middletown, NY 10941

There is a Buffalo Wild Wings next door at 567 NY-211, Middletown, NY 10941

NYC stands for "NYC"...not "New York City".

"An" is correct...IMO.

Nope, it depends on the initial sound of the word, not the letter. If it's a vowel sound, like the 'eh' of NYC, use "an".
