Longshot Rich Strike won the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville in upset fashion. The horse had 80-1 odds entering the race.
It was jockey Sonny Leon’s first time winning the Derby.
The No. 21 horse wasn’t expected to run the race. He was the first alternate after Ethereal Road was scratched Friday morning.

Rich Strike wasn't even supposed to be in the Derby. He was only there because Ethereal Strike scratched. He was 80-1! He's a Derby winner.
I suspect no Triple Crown this year.

Way more exciting than usual.
Relatively tight pack with the winner just smoking to the finish.

The winner kept attacking that other horse after the race.

He was foaming at the mouth when he went into the gate, and then he was trying to chew up the stable pony AND its rider afterward.
He’s a little high-strung.
Maybe a psycho.😆

Announcer said earlier that the horse was in a $30,000 claiming race last year. Amazing!
Jockey did an outstanding job.
The horse was absolutely full of himself after the race. Didn't seem to be tired at all.
Preakness will be interesting.

Maybe the horse was on drugs.
The fix was in.

Satisfying, but funny finish!
Tight group of top 3 in the end. Just when it seemed the 2 favorites were doing what they should, longest shot who gets squeezed in yesterday on the card due to scratch, squeaks by them!

Lead pony needs to wear leather neck guard. Maybe next time. Rider yelling at Rich! Never seen that much vinegar in a post-race. All very interesting.
