” the HORRIBLE Maude did better in that slot.”
I never got that show. I’m such a Texas Redneck it grated on my nerves. I’m sure for somebody it meant something but I always thought Maude was just plain mean. Watched maybe 5 minutes and off it went. Again Texas guy but too much New York for me.

I grew up in Connecticut, and was turned off because she sounded like a mean man. I watched ONE episode, and was done. Adrienne Barbeau, who played the daughter, reportedly had the audacity to tell Shirley Jones that she (Miss Barbeau) was a bigger deal. The men on the show were such whiny wimps it was painful.

I grew up in Northern New Jersey and felt the same way.

I always thought the show was sending up the liberal, uber-feminist type. Her husband, daughter, maid, friends next door and others dinged her constantly.
