We got hit in public school. I was spanked by the principle, threatened to be locked in the school basement in 1st grade, teachers would throw books or chalk at people not paying attention, wack students on the head.
Not much different from a catholic school
I had French-Canadian nuns in Grades 1-12. In grade school, morning classes were all in French, afternoon classes in English. Once we got to high school, only one class (French language) was in French. Most of the nuns were wonderful, a few were not...
Went to a Catholic grade school in the 60’s and it was a mix of good and bad. One num had a dozen broom handles and if you misbehaved, you were made to kneel on them. Others would have you hold a heavy bible in your outstretched arms.
The world needs more nuns.
There were a few nuns who were rather mean, but most of them were wonderful teachers, devoted to God and to us.
It's well to remember that many of them had been physically and emotionally abused as children, especially the Irish ones, if I may say from familial observation. Then their church also failed them. These abuses should not have been allowed; but many of the priests also were abused in several ways, then passed it on. God is love, and Jesus had a merry heart, deep understanding and great compassion.
(That is not to say that many of the protestant/evangelical churches haven't also failed.)
Amen to that! Justice Thomas is an outstanding American, one of the best exemplars of how our system is supposed to work. The secret sauce is sincere, scripturally informed belief in the God of the Bible.
LOL!!! Post of the thread!
And by the way,
