For most, it’s about this time the thought occurs about the needs most taken for granted: Food, water, security, information.

Starvation takes a lot longer than 5 days. Except for the weak and ill, it will takes weeks.
Yes, some people will start dumpster diving within a few days because they have never gone more than part of a day without food and do not know how long they can live.
Personally, I’ve gone 3 weeks on water only. Of course if you are carrying a fairly large food supply around your waist, your body can go longer than very skinny people, small children, or the very ancient.
