That is partly the nature of the draft. How many can't miss picks don't work out? Ryan Leaf notably. And a bad high pick like that sets a franchise back years. Then a player like Brady is taken as an afterthought in the sixth round. As Louis B Mayer said - or was it Sam Goldwyn - nobody knows nothing.

Wentz was good for us for one year, then he got hurt, at the right time, and Nick Foles was literally touched by GOD.

Leaf was a no brainer, at least to the smart guys.
In Bill Polian’s book, he talks about how Peyton Manning showed up for his “15 minute” pre-draft interview with 24 pages of detailed questions for management, which went on over about 4 hours that evening at dinner.

And Leaf didn’t show up at all for the interview.
