There are almost no reliable "facts" available to the general public these days. Just propaganda in support of one narrative or another.
"Facts" which are too inconvenient to the favored narratives get suppressed. That is effective too.
That leaves us falling back on our own preferred beliefs and prejudices without much chance of correcting them. We are flying blind most of the time in clouds of misdirection, outright lies, and flawed or contradictory observations. I don't believe it is unreasonable for people to jump to conclusions on very little evidence.
When you cannot tell what is going on, you just go with the best odds that you know.
Yes, it is unreasonable. The correct answer is to wait and then work to uncover the facts, no matter how long that might take. It's never right to just jump to a conclusion because you decide the facts can be damned.
Which is why when the vaxx and mask topics arise I demand that the VacciNazis / FaceBurqa proponents show me proof, or even evidence, that vaxxing / masking has ever saved a single life. Suppresses the heck out of 'em.
