Right, and doesn’t even actually need a continuous surface either for a simple cage, to protect against electric shock, for example. A connected surface might be more accurate, since you could have a surface with holes all over it, and the current would still preferentially flow on the outside of the surface, as long as it is connected so there is a path.

There is much confusion about Faraday shields, cages and electricity.

Faraday cages and shields are for EMF protection and do not require grounds. Cages (with holes) will allow threshold frequencies to pass. Example is the microwave viewing widow which let light pass but blocks microwave frequencies.

Protection from electricity requires that the person does not become a conductor. Birds can perch on powered HV lines.

A car is protection since the low resistance path is from a metal part to ground.
