"The Slot" - that was the Battle of Guadalcanal correct?

That was the first major WW2 Pacific battle the U.S. was involved in and it was a nasty one. I recently read a book on it.

It wasn't the battle for Guadalcanal , it was the nick name given by Allied sailors for New Georgia Sound.

It figured prominently during the battle however as it was the main supply line for Marines on the island.
