Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got one thing right early in her political career when she declared that the Democrats would turn the whole country red. She was immediately corrected, but she was right in her color selection.
Who was the genius who colored Democrats blue and Republicans red on election maps? I can understand the Democrats wanting to hide their true colors, but why did the Republicans accept it?
Words have meanings. To an old Cold Warrior, the word “Red” means “Communist” and that’s what my mind locks onto when I hear it, and probably every other old soldier's, too. It is time to restore color correctness!
What color was Hillary’s Red Button? The one she used to reset relations with Russia? What were the Red Guards and the Red Brigade? If you don’t know, look them up. Hint: they weren’t Boy Scouts.

The colors are swapped from what they should be. But on war planning maps the friendly forces are blue and the enemy is red. The media used this to label Republicans as the enemy.

To answer the question, it was the media. Especially the electoral map for the 2000 election.
I personally like my bright RED MAGA HAT and shirts because I can watch the communists throw up in their cheezy paper fake masks when they see me coming with my Trump stuff and they know there is a gun somewhere.
And there always is at least one and most times two.
The US flag is RED, White and Blue.
Just because some other country or ideology is considered Red, does not affect what the US stands for.
Except when a group within the US (democrats and their followers) accept and pursue the evil policies that attempt to destroy American values.
Don’t be hung up on the color Red or Blue.
Let’s get rid of evil in both parties and follow God’s will so that we can have peace on earth and eternal life with God.

The Red is from the stripes on the Flag of the United States of America, representing the lifeblood of Patriots. Predates the moronic failed Communists by a considerable time.
I wouldn’t sweat it. Best color on our flag and the one with deepest meaning.
It’s doubtful anyone thinks Republicans are commies because their states are tagged as Red.
I don’t think calling Republicans “Red” confuses people with the communist application of the color either. Just like calling a man a woman does not confuse me. I remember. I have the memory of an antelope.

I know this is correct because I had a screaming fit about it when I saw them doing it in 1992 to disguise the fact that Bill the human sh*tbag was a Communist who toured Russia in 1968, protested American involvement in Vietnam, and who stayed with well known communists when he toured countries behind the Iron Curtain around the same time.
Bill Clinton was getting so many linkages to communist organizations and people, the media colored him "blue" as a smokescreen.
I used to have examples of election maps in various newsrooms, but I can't find those anymore.
But the change occurred in 1992. Reagan and Bush HW were "blue."
I know, I used to distribute their yard signs.
I think they briefly switched back in 1996 before making the change permanent.
