Actor Rob Reiner said on this week’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show” that if a person votes for any Republicans, they vote for “autocracy.”
Reiner said, “First off, all let’s dispense with the idea of Republican a Democrat, or conservative and liberal. We are talking about democracy versus autocracy. We see it happening all over the world. That’s one of the reasons Putin invaded Ukraine. He is wanting to destroy democracy.”
He continued, “We have an election right now in France between Macron and Marine Le Pen, and we don’t know the results yet there, but that is also a test as to whether or not democracy or autocracy will survive in the world. So, you have a man, former president of the United States, who led and incited a deadly insurrection to overthrow the United States government. He now is in control of one of the parties in this country.”

I don't think that is true, but I understand why you might think that. I've never liked Putin, who has in all likelihood had many people killed - independent of the killing and immoral actions he is directing in the Ukraine. That said, it was G.W. Bush who said he 'looked into his eyes and saw his soul' (or something like that).
I think a fair number of conservatives are just so tired and resentful of the Russia, Russia, Russia propaganda and false accusations against Trump such that they don't want to allow the left to characterize Putin as the main and only threat in the world. I think many feel that making Putin the number one boogey man in the world is ignoring the other boogey men/women in the world whom the left has embraced - including those in China who Biden has given a pass to, those in Iran who Biden is cutting a nuclear deal with, and those globalists (e.g. Soros) from multiple nations who want to realign the world in a manner that restricts our freedoms, diminishes the US, and puts control in the hands of a cabal of liberal 'elites'.
Irrespective of the above, I agree with you entirely that Putin is a dangerous autocrat whose ego is big enough to lead him to start an overt WWIII.
Autocracy.. such as what Biden engaged in when he shut down the Keystone pipeline on week 1 of his regime?
STFU, Reiner.
More libturd projection...
Either he doesn’t know the definition of that’s word, or he hasn’t been paying attention to what’s been going on for the last 18 months.
Is he talking about Russia? That is the only autocracy I can remember prior to Bolshevism.
I can agree to a point on what you are saying.
Yes I think a fair number of conservatives are reflxively supporting Putin for the reasons you state. But that is a problem. Has our entrenched political views become so bad that
there is no ability to reason? Its to the point if the left says water is wet, the right would disagree - and vice versa. Is it totally inconceivable that there just may be an issue that both left and right can agree on, rare as it is anymore?
Our country was no fan of communism, certainly Churchill wasnt. But yet there was a greater threat to address and we backed the communists during the war. We may not like the “globalists” and yes Zelensky pretending to play the piano with his penis is the most outrageous crime against mankind one could ever do, but there is a bigger fish to fry and thats Putins naked agression. Will he stop at Ukraine? No.
He dreams of putting the band back together and that includes NATO countries. Best to stop him now before he tries it on a NATO country and put us in a nuclear war.
I wonder how many people were murdered in Democrat ruined cities in the time it took him to post this.
I agree entirely. Reflexively hating those your enemies like, or liking/supporting those your enemy doesn't like is wrong, dangerous, and counterproductive. We should all stand on principle, and not let the actions of others suppress what our conscience and moral compass tells us to do.
Yep. Sometimes its a choice of the lesser of two evils. Or choosing the devil you know or the one you don’t. But to not make a choice can be worse. Such is the fallen world we live in. My moral compass tells me what Putin is doing is wrong. There is no getting around that and God forbid supporting him if only to score political points.
What else would you expect from an avowed anti American communist? F mearhead!
Dead from the neck up.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Hilarious!
The letter after the name means jack anymore.
The only reason political parties still exist is to give voters the illusion of choice.
A pol is either loyal to our former republic or to Deep State.
Most of our pols are loyal to Deep State.
So is Reiner.
Back to name calling. I guess that’s all they have left.
