How is that even possible? If you don’t owe the IRS money, then they have no right to confiscate it. Your statement implies someone would have to come into your home to search for it. With the amount of guns in this country, it would be a suicide mission. 🤣

It’s asset forfeiture. And it is legal. Large amounts of cash give the government the right to take it and demand that you prove you acquired it legally.

Cases where cash you have in your home is confiscated is less common because they have to know you have it. Take $20k in cash from your bank account and the bank reports it - which they will now do - and the feds can get a warrant and take it.

If you are pulled over and for some reason your car is searched, it is legal for the cops to take your cash because the cash alone is considered proof of criminal activity.
