The newly released tape of the House minority leader suggesting the resignation of President Trump may bespeak a swamp that's more contaminated than any of us can imagine. First, who did the recording? And second, who released it? CNBC reports that Representative Liz Cheney denies leaking the tape of her conversation with Kevin McCarthy.
A spokesperson for Cheney, one of two Republicans on the House select committee probing the Capitol riot, said in a statement Friday morning that the congresswoman "did not record or leak the tape and does not know how the reporters got it."
Rachel Maddow played a portion of the tape in conjunction with a report on the upcoming hit piece on Trump, This Will Not Pass by Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns. They allege that on January 10, 2021, McCarthy talked privately for 45 minutes with Representatives Scalise, Cheney, and Emmer to discuss his thoughts on asking Trump to step down.

McCarthy is caught on tape saying, "This is what I think, we know that it'll pass the House. I think there's a chance it'll pass the Senate, even when he's gone." What does McCarthy mean by that? If Trump were to resign, there wouldn't be much to vote on. He goes on to say, "Now, this is one personal fear I have. I do not want to get in any conversation about Pence pardoning. Again, the only discussion I would have with him is that I think this will pass, and it would be my recommendation you should resign."
This is looking a lot like the tip of an iceberg. Are the phone conversations of members of Congress recorded routinely? Do they know they're being recorded? And why is only this portion of the tape being released? And why now?

That’s my interpretation as well.
Additionally, this exposes that not only was NSA (or whomever) was spying on Trump, but Congress too.
If this is all they have - and they’re so desperate to further expose how much of the machine was vested in usurping the Constitution - then it bodes badly for them should we actually get a POTUS with cojones in the WH who feels free to clean house.
Why be coy? Help us out, a brief paragraph about the unknown mystery of the Awan brothers and what it has to do with Liz Cheney’s treachery, and Kevin McCarthy being owned and managed by Frank Luntz will suffice.
It was a zoom call or something...anyone on the call could have recorded it.

Agree. Everyone around Trump, including his son, was advising him. He didn’t seem to be listening to anyone, because it took him hours to make a public statement about what was happening at the Capitol and ask people to leave.
When the dems & media started pushing impeachment, I’m sure several people advised Trump to resign & not go through the process. This recording doesn’t really clear that up.

Agree. I think the call was misrepresented. I think McCarthy was in part trying to calm the natives like Cheney. He probably fielded many calls about this issue in a short period of time (he sounds very tired in the call) and attempting to keep his charges from going off the reservation. I’m not making excuses for him because I’m not a fan, and wish he had handled differently but it was an unprecedented situation with no playbook on how to deal with hundreds of angry underlings along with constituents.
If the pubbies are lucky enough to take the house and senate in Nov. they must remove McCarthy and McConnell from leadership if they expect to take the presidency in ‘24. Suggest they avoid infighting until after the election.

The Left has been doing the reporting and the Left has been writing the headlines. They’re controlling the message. People need to stop believing the headlines and interpretations that the Liberal media is pushing.
They want Trump not to run and they want to cause chaos within the Republican party before Nov.

What happened to Gaetz is a perfect example. EVERYONE has secrets; the key is how to use them. In Gaetz’s case, they tried to destroy him. The list isn’t so short. Now it’s MTG.
Alternatively, the power of the purse commands exponentially more power if you can control those responsible for BOTH running government and funding it. IMHO the explanation for some recent votes on the Hill fall under this scenario, and is probably the underlying cause of disintegration/corruption of the GOP.
I still want to know what happened to Becerra’s server.
And it is my opinion that many lobbyists are on alphabet agency payrolls.
