If they just had ended the mandates at the same time that pretty much everywhere else ended them, then the courts would probably have tossed the case, and they wouldn’t have to launch an appeal to “preserve their power”.
So this is actually a case where their insistence on exercising the power for no justifiable reason has led to them losing that power. I don’t expect them to learn the lesson though.

They don’t have to learn anything. They’ll force whomever they want to to wear a mask irrespective of any damn court order and arrest or otherwise sanction anyone who defies them.
Excellent point. From what I read Canada ended the mask mandate for planes sometime in March and no massive piles of dead bodies there and I’m sure other countries are similar. It is all about power and control in the only area they had left they could legally control was air travel.
