The purpose of my story was to illustrate that mice still invaded a concrete jungle environment when the nearest grass was a city park several blocks away. That's why he kept pet snakes to flush them out periodically.
But if it makes you feel better to keep your grass clipped like a golf course, have at it.
I don't golf, so maybe I'm not an expert. But IMHO mowing the lawn once a week or two doesn't come close to the standard of "keep your grass clipped like a golf course".
I'm making the argument for not going an entire month without cutting grass. I think I'm in a reasonable middle ground between the two.
And perhaps it's my unfamiliarity with concrete jungle life. Maybe mice in those areas have nowhere else to go, compared to mice in my area having the woods to retreat to if there aren't good hiding places between the woods and my house (i.e. the grass is cut). Or maybe there are different species of mice that thrive in wooded areas vs mice in concrete jungles and the mice have different behaviors.
All I can tell you from experience living near thick woods in northern Alabama is that if I go 3 or 4 weeks in the spring without cutting grass we have varmints starting first in the garage. But if I cut the grass every week or two the only mice I'll see is one a month or so outside and it's after the cat found it first, killed it, and brought it to me for an atta-boy.
I can't confirm or deny if that's what mice are like in concrete jungles.
“There are many factors that are hurting bee populations, he said, including climate change (LMBO) and irresponsible uses of pesticides and herbicides.” ...and GMO crops
...that is all
Another reason I'd prefer to be in your neck of the woods than a concrete jungle when TSHTF.
“One is to “maintain a mowed buffer” that separates your lawn from your garden.”Maintaining a tidy mowed edge also makes a busy natural planting look less overwhelming, and makes these spaces look intentional rather than neglectful,” the nonprofit writes.”
That’s what I do, I also plant a few patches of wildflowers around the yard, I like the look.
Brought to you by the hairy armpit crowd.
I’ve been participating in no now May for years!
No mow May!
