Require COVID shots for travelers but not for the hoard crossing our Southern border. Makes sense doesn’t it. Not!
.
Feeling particularly defiant, I decided to take a chance and try to cross by land into Buffalo, NY, yesterday. I got into the U.S. with the only question being “Do you have anything to declare?” I had a nice lunch with a friend and did some banking and shopping. It was just like the old days, except I had to take a covid test to get back into Canada, which I passed, and am now in quarantine for 14 days.
Last night I saw the news that the US government had extended the requirement to be vaccinated to enter the US by land and water. I’m not sure I could get into the US today without a vaccination question and proof. I wasn’t aware that the proof of vaccination had expired or when it expired. I don’t know if the CBP officers are just tired of everything covid, if they’re being uncooperative in light of the laxness at the southern border, or if their lack of questioning about my vaccine status was because the proof requirement had not been in effect for some period of time. Maybe I’ll try to cross again after I’m out of quarantine and see which it might be.
