I have a bit larger one of those and I collected a bag of coal from the tailings pile of the old Tesla mine while working out there and brewed a pot of coffee with Tesla coal burning in a small rocket stove :-)
I think percolating is the way to go. I also put an unbleached paper basket filter in and just poke a hole in the center. I have the stove heat setting and timer it’s perfect every time.
