Actually it makes perfect sense if you look at it from this perspective:
Everyday the war goes on, Zelensky becomes a bigger "hero" to the world, gets wined and dined by the elites, has hordes of bigger and better weapons pumped into his country, showered with billions in funding. Hell, when all is said and done, the West will likely foot the bill to rebuild every house and building in the entire country and modernize his military to boot. So why would he want to end it all by giving an inch? In fact he's gone from offering Russia pretty much everything they were demanding the first weeks of the war to now saying Ukraine plans to even take Crimea back before it will agree to peace talks.
Then you have Putin, in reality, at this point he would likely very much like to end the war. It has been a complete debacle militarily and economically. But he can't appear to lose, he has to get SOMETHING. A flat out retreat would likely be the end of him in Russia, and it would only embolden NATO further. In a way Russia's very future depends on him coming out of it with at least a minimal victory.
So there you have it, one leader (Zelensky) who has absolutely no reason or desire to give an inch, and another (Putin) who MUST have at least an inch before he can declare victory and leave.
Seriously, "giving an inch"? Putin is demanding Ukraine give up Crimea, Donbas, Luhansk, demilitarize by having only 60,000 in army, be neutral and recognize Russian as an official language. That's not giving an inch that's a complete surrender.
I think we have a winner here, the only common sense true way out of this. Praying to God.
