I have thalassemia minor which can cause iron issues. I have been thinking of donating plasma after a recent thread talking about how it can help with iron overload.

I have it as well. I was told my chronic anemia was a symptom. I didn’t think we could give blood products. I was on iron supplements for a while.

I have never tried to give blood so I don’t know but that would make sense. Plasma might be different and supposedly plasma donation is better for getting rid of the iron.

Here is what I have been told for my version - which is Beta Thalassemia. Don’t take iron. Drs will prescribe it and I have to remind them I have thalassemia. I just live with the funky blood cells dying off.
Most Drs don’t have a clue. It’s just a word they have heard in Med School ;-)
