Not even close.

By now, there should be grackles carpeting every lawn in the area, sparrows and starlings, too.

Haven’t seen them in well over a decade.

The transient migratory birds who came through every spring fly at night, quite often, and the bird blenders get them.

Hardly any bird song in the woods.

*That* is the real “silent spring”.

That's because they're at my house along with the also arriving cow birds.

I used to have lots of goldfinches coming to my feeders but for some reason, the last two summers there were none. However, they're back now.

The migratory bird act needs to be either done away with or modified since it includes those damn grackles, cow birds and cormorants.

As a post script, I hadn't seen a Baltimore Oriole in at least 30 years until four years ago when I decided to put up an oriole feeder. Sure enough, within two weeks a pair showed up.

Then two and three years ago, they arrived on the same day, May 2 and last year they arrived on May the 4th. Must have gotten stuck in traffic along their migratory route......LOL!

Audubon has a fun app you can download on your smart phone. On it you can track the migratory birds and when and where they are being spotted.
