When I was in college I was driving with my friend in his pickup truck when we whacked a deer on a dark road, killing it. As we got out to inspect the damage, a car pulled up behind us. A man got out and asked us, matter of fact, “Are you going to take that?” We told him we weren’t and he packed the dead deer into his vehicle and drove off. I imagine it made for a few tasty meals.
I worked two summers as a forest fire fighter for the CA Division of Forestry. We supplemented our food budget with road kill about every other week. Venison is very tasty.
